Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、近年社会的に問題とされる「顔認識」の社会的側面と、社会的注意（社会的場面で、うまく視線が合わないなどといった問題）の側面を、その発達過程から実験的に検討することを目的とした。本年度は、NIRS（Near-Infrared Spectroscopy:近赤外分光法）を用いた脳活動計測および行動実験から、乳児の顔認識能力について検討した。
脳活動計測では、大きさが異なる顔画像を用いて乳児の脳活動を計測し、5-8ヶ月児は顔の大きさが変わっても顔領域でアダプテーション効果がみられることを報告した。さらに視線向きが異なる3次元的に作成された合成顔を観察中の8ヶ月の脳活動を計測し、直視よりも逸れた視線を観察時に脳活動が増大することを報告した。これらの成果は、学術雑誌NeuroReportにそれぞれ掲載された。海外では乳児の視知覚研究で最先端の研究者が集まり権威のあるInternational Conference on Infant Studies、国内では日本心理学会など、いくつかの学会で発表された。
行動実験からは、白黒で二値化されたmooney face画像を用い、制限された情報からでも生後3-4ヶ月児が顔の学習ができること、学習が運動によって促進されることを示した。さらに3次元的に作成された顔画像を用い、生後8ヶ月児のみが視線が合っている場合にのみ顔の学習が正立することを示した。これらの成果は、Journal of Experimental Child Psychology、Vision Researchなどの学術雑誌に掲載された。
