Outline of Final Research Achievements

The final outcome of this research unit denominated “Society of Jesus,” which forms part of a superior unit denominated “Religious Movement Research Group,” is the publication of two books. The first is the edited book whose title is Pastoral Care and Monasticism in Latin Christianity and Japanese Buddhism (ca. 800-1650), published by LIT Verlag, Germany, and Monasticism and Books in the Medieval Age: Towards the Comparative Religious History of Mediums (text in Japanese), also an edited book published by Yasaka Shobo. Both books are the first step towards the comparative research of monasticism of Latin Christianity and Japanese Buddhism, crossing the boundaries of academic disciplines, such as western history and Japanese history.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
