Outline of Annual Research Achievements

有機薄膜太陽電池(OPV)の性能は,新しい非フラーレン型アクセプター(NFA)の開発によって飛躍的に向上してきている。この性能をさらに高めるためには,NFAの光励起過程に対する理解を深めることが重要である.時間分解分光は有用な手法であるが,一般的に広く行われている可視から近赤外域の測定では,電荷が強く束縛された状態しか観測できない.一方,中赤外域の測定は発電に直接寄与するフリーキャリアや浅い束縛状態も観測できるという長所がある.そこで本研究では,代表的なNFAの一つであるITICについて,中赤外域の時間分解分光測定を行った.
ITIC薄膜を光励起して過渡吸収スペクトルを測定したところ、強く束縛されたエキシトンに由来する吸収が970 nmに観測された.一方,中赤外域では励起直後から数十psまでは3000 cm-1 (0.37 eV)付近にピークが出現した.これは電子と正孔が互いに束縛されている“bound polaron pair”の状態に帰属される.しかし光照射から数百ps経つと,スペクトルの形状はより平坦な形へと変化した.この強度は,ドナー分子であるPDBD-Tを混合すると更に顕著になったことから,bound polaron pairの電荷が分離したフリーキャリアの吸収に帰属される.1800 cm-1と3100 cm-1の過渡吸収の時間変化を,970 nmと640 nmの過渡吸収と比較したところ,プローブ光の波長が長くなれば長くなるほど減衰が遅くなった.この結果は,電子と正孔の束縛が弱くなればなるほど互いの距離が離れて再結合確率が減少することを意味している.この非局在化電子が発電に直接寄与するため,この挙動をさらに詳しく調べることで太陽電池の性能向上に役立つ知見が得られることが期待される.

Reason

無機材料と比べて有機材料は比誘電率が低いため、電子と正孔は束縛されたエキシトンとして存在すると一般的には広く考えられてきた。しかし、本研究では、ITICのような有機半導体薄膜の中でも電子はフリーキャリアとして存在することを実証したことに新規性がある。このフリーキャリアは発電に直接寄与するため、有機太陽電池の性能を向上させるためには、このフリーキャリアの生成過程や減衰過程を明らかにすることが重要である。今後、この研究をさらに発展させ、有機太陽電池の性能向上に貢献する予定である.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

今後は、ITICの他にITIC誘導体やY6やその誘導体についても同様な研究を行う。さらに、理論計算を組み合わせることで電荷が分離するメカニズムを明らかにする計画である。
