Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究の目的は、大型のレーザー干渉計型重力波望遠鏡と小規模な光共振器の双方を用いて、ダークマターの正体に実験的に迫ることである。特に宇宙論の観点から高い注目を浴びている、1e-11 eV程度以下の質量を持つ超軽量ダークマターに着目する。光子とわずかに相互作用するアクシオンや、レーザー干渉計を構成する鏡にわずかな力を与えるゲージボゾンといった未発見粒子に着目し、偏光計測や変位計測によりこれらの探索を行う。
2020年度は、KAGRAの観測データを用いたゲージボゾン探索のためのデータ解析パイプラインの開発や、光リング共振器を用いたアクシオン探索のための装置開発を行った。
KAGRAは2020年2月から4月まで、自身初となる観測運転を行った。当時の感度では、未探索領域のゲージボゾン探索は不可能であるが、実データを用いて、データ解析パイプラインの開発を進めた。特に、信号雑音比を計算する際に必要となる、検出器雑音を評価するためのパラメータ調整や、偽信号除去のためのアルゴリズム開発を進めた。また、複数の干渉計信号を用いたデータ処理や、ダークマター信号の確立性を考慮した上限値の計算手法を開発した。
光リング共振器の開発では、これまで開発してきたプロトタイプの改良のために、共振器を構成する鏡をより高品質なものに交換した。これにより、フィネスを5倍程度向上させることに成功した。また、実験セットアップを覆う遮光シールドの導入や、デジタル制御系を用いた共振器の自動ロックシステムの導入を行った。これにより、60時間以上の連続動作や自動ロックが可能となり、長期間測定に向けた準備が整った。さらに、より高出力なレーザーを導入するために、新しい実験室とクリーンブースの整備を進めた。

2020年度の目標を全て達成しており、2021年度の光リング共振器によるアクシオン初期観測運転や、KAGRAの初の実データ解析に向けて順調に進展している。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

引き続き、計画通り研究を進める。2020年度に新しい実験室の整備が進み、2021年度から研究員を雇用するため、今後はこれまで以上に研究を推進できると期待できる。
