Outline of Annual Research Achievements

2023年度は、光リング共振器を用いたアクシオンダークマター探索実験DANCEの改良を進めた。また、2021年5月に行った試験運転の結果を出版するとともに、そのデータ解析手法をまとめた論文を出版することができた[PRD 108, 072005 (2023), PRD 108, 092010 (2023)]。KAGRAの2020年の観測データを用いたベクトルダークマター探索については、解析結果をまとめた論文のLIGO-Virgo-KAGRAコラボレーション内での慎重な審査を進め、解析結果と一般向けの解説記事を公開した[arXiv:2403.03004; https://www.ligo.org/science/Publication-O3KAGRADM/]。さらに、新しい取り組みとして、スピン2を持つダークマターをKAGRAのようなレーザー干渉計型重力波望遠鏡で探索する可能性についての検討を進めた[PRD 107, 104007 (2023), arXiv:2310.10646]。
DANCEにおいては、2021年の試験運転ではs偏光とp偏光が同時に光リング共振器内を共振しないという問題があったため、予定通りの感度が得られなかった。そこで補助共振器を利用し、偏光間の位相差を補償することで、同時共振を目指す実験を進めてきたが、補助共振器に由来する光学的ロスなどの課題があった。そこで2023年度は、波長可変レーザー光源を用いて、レーザー波長を調整することで、偏光間の位相差を補償する実験を進めた。これは共振器鏡の反射時に生じる位相差には波長依存性があることを利用するものであり、実際に反射時の位相差測定することで、我々の鏡の場合、1067 nm付近で位相差がゼロになることが確認できた。今後はこの鏡と、開発した波長可変レーザー光源を用いて、DANCEの広帯域な高感度化を進める。

Reason

光リング共振器を用いたアクシオンダークマター探索実験DANCEは予定感度を得られていないものの、磁場を用いない探索としては初の上限値を設定することができ、その解析手法や結果を予定通りまとめることができた。また、KAGRAのベクトルダークマター探索結果もまとめ、予定通り公開することができた。KAGRAを用いたアクシオンダークマター探索については、KAGRAの観測中断のため、2023年度中にデータを得ることができなかったが、2024年度中には世界初のデータが取得できる予定である。さらに、スピン2のダークマター探索の検討など、当初の予定にはなかった研究も進めることができたため、本研究はおおむね順調に新鮮していると言える。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

2024年度中にKAGRAのO4観測を再開させ、重力波検出器としては世界初となるアクシオンダークマターの観測データを取得する。それに向けて、KAGRAの復旧や高感度化を推進するとともに、アクシオンデータの較正手法やデータ解析パイプラインの整備を進める。DANCEにおいても、波長可変レーザーを用いた広帯域での高感度化実験を進め、引き続き研究を推進していく。
