Research Abstract |
We revealed seafloor disturbances, detailed fault structures, and sediment transport-and-accumulation by earthquake shaking and/or tsunami by high precision surveys and seafloor observations before and after earthquakes. This provided the effectual methods to understand the activity histories of earthquakes or faultings based on sediment samples. Moreover, we estimated fluid migrations and expulsions along faults or in oceanic crust from thermal structure and origin-and-conduit from fluid chemistry, consequently delivering fundamental information for understanding of pre- and co-seismic processes of great subduction zone earthquakes.
