Research Abstract

本年度は、日本海溝掘削（IODP-JFAST）で得られた断層帯の試料、および陸上部付加体に分布する断層について分析を進め、断層の物質科学的、力学的性質について以下の成果が得られた。
１. 東北地方太平洋沖地震の震源断層が、60%を超える高濃度のスメクタイトによって構成されていることが分かった。また比較のため、DSDP Leg56で採取された沈み込む直前の堆積物の鉱物定量を行い、遠洋粘土層の上部5mにスメクタイトの濃集層があることを見出した。また、その局所化した剪断帯からfluidizationの証拠を見出した。このことが日本海溝における大規模な津波性断層すべりを引き起こす主な要因と考えられる。
２. また、日本海溝掘削間隙水試料の化学分析によりプレート境界断層における摩擦熱由来の温度異常に流体移動が与える影響を評価した。
３. 南海トラフ基盤の玄武岩の変質解析を行った。EPMAを用いた元素マッピングの結果から、玄武岩の変質で生じたサポナイトは主に気泡を充填する形で産していることが判明した。また玄武岩の浸透率測定より不透水であることも判明した。
４. また陸上部の四万十付加体牟岐メランジュ中に発達する枕状玄武岩及び玄武岩起源断層岩から採取した試料を用いて摩擦の速度依存性と高速摩擦特性を検討し、枕状玄武岩が不安定すべりの発生源となるポテンシャルを有すること及びfluidizationを記録したウルトラカタクレーサイトが地震破壊を伝播させやすいことを明らかにした。
５．異なる深度（1km以浅と2-4km）で形成された陸上付加体に発達するメランジュ様断層に対する力学試験から，深いものほど弾性波速度と剪断強度の著しい増加を確認した。プレート境界断層浅部における剪断による圧密と粘土鉱物の相転移によって、断層が厚化することを実証した。
