Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We analyzed growth of shoots and roots of Arabidopsis thaliana in elevated CO2 a 780 ppmv with special reference of the effects of pH and nitrogen contents of the rooting medium. We also followed diurnal changes in respiration rate were followed and limiting steps were examined based on the metabolome data. Using Commelina communis, we showed involvement of soluble signal(s) from the mesophyll in stomatal opening/closure. The signal is especially important in closure of stomata in response to high CO2. We also showed High CO2 air decreases conductance for CO2 diffusion from the intercellular space to the chloroplast stroma in Nicotiana plumbaginifolia and A. thaliana. The conductance also decreased in response to ABA, but the mechanisms responsible for the decrease were different.
