Outline of Final Research Achievements

Anthropological and psychological investigations were conducted among contemporary hunter-gatherers to understand modern humans’ learning behavior. It has become clear that characteristics of learning behavior mentioned hereafter make innovative human learning ability: 1) development pattern with long childhood and adolescence, 2) extended social networks for innovative individual learning, 3) active learning with observation and imitation through participation in communal activities, 4) a whole copy of body movements as an effective method, 5) high cognitive abilities like theory of mind and meta-learning, 6) ability to learn from wild animals and plants and things made by other people, 7) ability to rebuild behavioral system at a higher level after once objectifying and deconstructing it. Those points seem to have much to do with the difference of learning ability between modern humans and the Neanderthals.
