Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The factors that influence the accuracy of the eyewitness testimony and identification and interrogation methods that promote the accuracy of the eyewitness were investigated. As for the estimator variables, we examine the effect of the eyewitness duration while driving a curve road, and found that when we see a car and a person while they stopped opposite corner of the curving road, the details of the car and the person could not be reported. We also investing the mechanism of the generation of the weapon focus effect and found the automaticity of the attention to the weapon. Then we investigated the processes how the schema invade the memory of eyewitnesses. As for the system variables, such as lineup construction and administration methods were examined. Strong bias effects for the identification and post identification feedback effects were also observed under the condition where investigators of the crime had any bias about the suspects.
