Outline of Final Research Achievements |
As part of the Grant-in-Aid program “Extrasolar Planets” for Scientific Research on Innovative Areas, we mainly pursued the following two subjects: (1) Direct Imaging of Gas Giants with Subaru Telescope. We successfully imaged two new gas giants. The one around GJ504 has a mass of 4 MJupter and could be called as “Second Jupiter.” (2) Development of Instruments for Direct Spectroscopy of Exoplanets. We developed CHARIS, an integral field spectrograph, and SCExAO, an extreme adaptive optics system, for Subaru Telescope in order to carry out direct spectroscopy of exoplanets and successfully obtained spectra from exoplanets by combining these new instruments.
