Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、キャリアの動的過程、伝導と反応を伴う諸現象の機構を、統一的な視点から解明する新しい学術分野の開拓を目指す。スピン伝導・イオン伝導・触媒化学反応・生命分子反応は、表面近傍や微小領域での局所構造や界面の存在が本質的に重要であるため、局所機能の検出に威力を発揮する超低速ミュオンによってのみ、直接観測が可能となる。施設の事故等により今年度もビームが停止していたが、年度末間際の2月20日に実験が再開され、翌日超低速ミュオン発生に成功した。優れたエネルギー分解能が実証され、今後の展開が期待される。
１．界面近傍におけるスピン伝導：スピントロニクス用高機能材料の合成とSTMによる評価、スピンホール効果実験装置の開発等の準備が整った。
２．触媒化学反応：二酸化チタン単結晶のμSR信号の結晶軸依存性から、Ti-O-Muの複合欠陥の存在と、ミュオンに緩く結合した偏極電子の寄与を突き止めた。酸素欠陥を導入した単結晶で、μ-H結合由来と同定される信号から、酸素欠陥に局在する水素不純物が二酸化チタンの強いn型電気伝導性の起源である可能性を示すとともに、μSR法が欠陥濃度に敏感に反応することが確認された。超低速ミュオンによる光触媒作用時の酸素欠陥の空間分布、電荷状態解明に向けた測定原理の根拠が得られた。加速器の化学研究への応用の最前線に関するシンポジウムを企画し、ミュオンの可能性を世界の触媒化学研究者に広報した。
３．電気化学反応を担うイオン伝導：超低速ミュオンによる全固体電池中の局所的なLi拡散観測のための基礎情報として、β-NMRと低速ミュオンを用いて、リチウムイオン電池負極材料の薄膜試料に固有のイオン拡散係数、活性化エネルギーを求めた。
４．生命反応を司る電子伝達：蛋白質、葉緑体、酵素等の電子伝達を伴う生体関連物質の実験研究と、ミュオンの状態に関する理論研究を格段に進展させた。
