Outline of Final Research Achievements

We made new findings about neuronal basis of prediction and decision by conducting animal experiments and functional brain imaging of human subjects.
1.Japanese monkeys are able to make optimal decisions based on reward histories of their own as well as another monkey sitting side by side. 2.Activity of midbrain dopamine neurons and neurons in the striatum evaluate whether decision and action are rewarded or not and predict multiple future rewards through multi-step actions toward a goal. 3.Neurons in the centromedian (CM) nucleus of thalamus encode response bias to large-reward action, binding of response bias into action and unexpected change of behavioral state. 4.Activity of human amygdala and accumbens represents inequity in monetary resources delivered between oneself and another person.
