平成29-30年度における主要な成果は、本新学術領域全体の成果である4巻本（すべてSpringerから平成30年度中に刊行された）への貢献である。杉原は第1巻に‘Asian Path of Economic Development’を執筆した。杉原を共編者とする第2巻(Paths to the Emerging State in Asia and Africa)には、島田、太田、小林、谷本、久保を含む7名のメンバーが執筆した。第3巻には岡崎が執筆した。アジア、アフリカにおける新興国への移行の条件を地域交易と労働集約型工業化を軸に論じた第2巻は、現在までに7000件を超えるダウンロードが報告されており、関心を集めている。
本研究は、平成29年度に終了した。平成30年3月までに研究を終了する予定であったが、平成29年10月、歴史データ分析に従事していた研究助手が退職したため、歴史データ分析を中断することとなった。その結果、資金の一部を繰り越し、平成30年度に、総合地球環境研究所において研究支援員を雇用し、成果の出版に必要なデータをまとめた。GRIPSの大学院生にも協力を得て研究会を頻繁に行うなかで、とくに第二次大戦後のサブサハラ・アフリカの統計を新たに入手し、本研究が主として収集してきたアジアのデータと比較することができたことは大きな収穫であった。
なお、平成30年3月には政策研究大学院大学と総合地球環境学研究所で、海外の研究協力者を招いて最終ワークショップを開催し、研究成果を共有した。また、研究代表者は、世界経済史会議（平成30年7－8月、ボストン）や世界社会科学フォーラム（平成30年9月、福岡）など多くの機会に本研究の成果を報告した。さらに、これらの主要な成果とは別に、「長期の19世紀」におけるアジア域内交易と地域経済の発展についての英文論文集を刊行する計画も進行中である。
