Outline of Annual Research Achievements

グラフェン及び新しい原子層物質(窒化ホウ素、遷移金属カルコゲナイド、シリセン、フォスフォリン等)の物性に関する研究が活発に行われた。遷移金属カルコゲナイド系においては、MoTe2のラマン分光で、今まで同定できていなかったスペクトルを二重共鳴ラマン分光の理論を用いて同定することに成功した。またMoTe2, MoSe2, WSe2における原子層界面においては、電子の屈折方向がスピンに大きく依存するスピン依存伝導現象が見出され、スピントロニクスへ応用の可能性が示された。またシリコンの原子層膜であるシリセンのバンド構造についての詳しい計算がなされ、トポロジカルな観点からの新しい解釈が示されている。窒化ホウ素についてはナノチューブの第一原理による電子構造解析がなされ、チューブの螺旋度に依存してバンドギャップが系統的に変化することが判明し、応用上も重要な電子構造のバリエーションを持つ系であることが明らかとなった。一方異なる原子層から構成される複合原子膜の研究も発展しており、代表的な窒化ホウ素とグラフェンの複合薄膜についての詳しい電子構造が明らかにされた。またこの系では実験との共同研究によって磁場中のスペクトル構造がフラクタル構造を持つことが証明された(コロンビア大学、MITとの共同)。これは磁場と周期構造の競合により生ずるHofstadter butterflyという現象であり、1970年代の理論提案以来、世界で初めて実験によって確かめられた。

Reason

グラフェン以外の原子層の研究が急速に進展し、領域内外との実験研究との共同研究も活発に行われている。またすでに多くの知識の集積があるグラフェン系においてもいくつかの重要な発見がなされた。計画研究は原子層膜の全体の物性物理の研究に広がっており、当初の目的を達成していると十分に評価される。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

窒化ホウ素(BN)や遷移金属カルコゲナイド(TMD)に加え、フォスフォリン(2次元黒リン)やタンタルヒ素など、計画研究立ち上げ時には知られていなかった新たな原子層膜も次々に発見されており、その研究分野は物性物理学全体の重要な一角を占めるまでとなった。それら新物質を含めた原子層全体の物性理論研究を引き続き推進するとともに、さらにナノ構造、ナノデバイス、スピントロニクスデバイスへと研究を展開し、原子層デバイス実現への基礎を作ることを目標とする。
