Outline of Annual Research Achievements

平成26年度は、グラフェンと、グラフェン近縁の2次元物質原子層膜系の基礎的物性に関するいくつかの重要な発見がなされた。グラフェンのラマン分光においては、Gバンドと呼ばれるスペクトルで観測される非対称性の原因が1970年代からわかっていなかったが、定量的な計算でその原因となる励起プロセスが特定され、実験結果をほぼ正確に再現することに成功した。またグラフェンにおける格子欠陥とエッジ(試料境界)の相互作用効果について調べられ、グラフェンリボンにおける輸送特性への影響が明らかにされた。また、新しい2次元物質として幅広い理論研究がなされた。2次元シリコンである「シリセン」のバンド構造がWeaire Thorpeモデルと呼ばれる理論モデルで記述され、バンド幅がゼロになる平坦バンドの可能性が調べられた。またグラフェンと窒化ホウ素の複合系に関する詳細な理論計算がなされ、バンド構造及び磁場中スペクトル、量子ホール効果についての基礎理論が確立された。さらに複合2次元物質系の理論を拡張し、2層カーボンナノチューブに対する有効理論が構築された。ここで示された一般論は次元にかかわらず非整合系界面を記述する理論手法として有用である。また第一原理計算的手法を用いた未知の原子層物質の探索の一環として、炭素およびホウ素からなる原子層物質系にリチウムを層間に挿入した新しい系の設計研究が行われ、電子格子相互作用に起因する超伝導発現の可能性が調べられた。

Reason

本研究計画が策定された2012年はグラフェン以外の様々な原子層物質が注目を浴び始めた最初期であった。その後窒化ホウ素(BN)や遷移金属カルコゲナイド(TMD)に加え、フォスフォリン(2次元黒リン)やタンタルヒ素など新しい物質や現象が次々に見つかるにつれ、本計画研究も当初予想していなかったスピードで広がりを見せた。グラフェンを越え、より広い「原子薄膜」を新たな研究分野として確立するという当初の目的は、現時点で予想以上に達成していると評価できる。また新たに実現された様々な原子層物質を組み合わせた複合材料の理論研究が大きな進展を遂げた。中でも窒化ホウ素+グラフェン複合系におけるフラクタルスペクトルの理論の確立は最も重要なものの一つである。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

グラフェン、遷移金属カルコゲナイド、窒化ホウ素、シリセンといった新しい原子層物質の理論モデル確立を推進する。現在までの研究成果は各物質の基礎的な物性の理論探究が中心だが、応用に向けた取り組みは今後の課題である。グラフェン量子ドットやナノリボンの基本物性の知識を応用して、それらを基本ブロックとした機能性ナノ構造体の提案が求められる。またスピン軌道相互作用が非常に強い遷移金属カルコゲナイド原子薄膜の研究が進み、ナノ構造体を用いてスピンを制御することが提案されており、この性質を積極的に用いたスピントロニクスデバイスの可能性が大いに期待される。
