Outline of Annual Research Achievements

M9.0の2011年東北地方太平洋沖地震(以後,「東北沖地震」と呼ぶ)の発生後に発震機構解の回転が検出された秋田県内とM7.3 の横ずれ断層型地震が2000 年に発生した鳥取県西部での臨時地震観測網による観測を継続した.鳥取県西部については,B01(構造班)と共同で稠密地震観測を行った.また,2011 年にM7.0 の正断層型地震が発生した福島県南東部~茨城県北部およびM7.2 の逆断層型地震である2008 年岩手宮城内陸地震が発生した東北地方脊梁部での臨時地震観測を継続した.
東北沖地震発生直後に,秋田県内で応力場が回転したように見えたが,それから5年以上経過した後も,応力場の主軸方向は変化していないことが,誤差評価も考慮したうえで確定的となった.この付近では北東-南西方向に短縮する余効変動が継続しており,このような余効変動が続いている間は弾性的な応力がかかり続けることになるので,当初予想していた以上に長期に渡って応力場が回転したままである可能性が高いことがわかってきた.
一方,東北沖地震発生後に活発化した山形-福島県境付近の群発的地震活動は,当初はほとんど余震がつかず,また,高精度の震源再決定を行った結果,震源分布がいくつもの傾いた面状に分布し,この面は発震機構解の一つの節面と走向・傾斜がほぼ一致していて,また活動は深部から浅部に移動していったことがわかった.このことから,この活動は地下深部からの流体の上昇に伴って発生した可能性が高いと考えられる.
多数の地震の押引き分布から応力場の空間分布をベイズ的に推定する新しい手法の開発に成功し,国際誌に出版した.今後,応力場の時空間変化の推定に威力を発揮すると期待される.

Reason

秋田県内,鳥取県西部,福島県南東部~茨城県北部,および東北地方脊梁部での臨時地震観測を予定通り実施し,手法の改良や過去のデータの解析も予定通り実施した.これにより,秋田県内の特異な応力場が,東北沖地震後5年以上たっても継続していることが明らかになり,また,仙台市や山形-秋田県境付近で東北沖地震後に発生して群発地震の解析から,これらは流体が深部から上昇してくる過程で生じた可能性が高いことを明らかにした.さらに,様々な地震の多数の余震を用いて応力を推定した結果,差応力が数十MPa程度しかないことが,次々と明らかになって来ている.また,計画時に提案していた,不均質な応力場を高信頼度で推定する新しい手法が完成して論文として出版された.
以上から,本研究課題はおおむね順調に進展していると判断した.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

地震発生域の差応力が数十MPaとかなり小さいことが明らかになって来ており,また低強度の原因として高間隙圧の可能性が高いことも,様々な証拠から明らかになって来ている.一方で,歪レート分布から期待される弾性的応力レート分布の不均質性が無視できないこともわかってきた.来年度は最終年度にあたるため,本研究で得られた応力場の情報,B03班から得られる地殻流体の分布,A02班から推定される地殻の変形の情報およびB01班から得られる構造の情報等とB02班で行われている変形実験の結果とを比較し,C01班で構築されるモデルに結びつけて,地殻の応力と強度の分布および内陸地震の発生原因を明らかにしていくることが重要である.
