| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
地質サブグループの上部地殻班は三重県で中央構造線（MTL）の調査および断層岩試料解析を行い、領家花崗岩類起源の断層コア（カタクレーサイト帯）と周囲のダメージ帯、および断層破砕帯形成以前のマイロナイト帯についてその階層構造を明らかにした。また、MTLの大規模露頭に発達する時期を異にするすべり面について、変質鉱物、温度条件、運動像を解析し、断層が地下深部から浅部に上昇・冷却する際、断層すべりが局所化して行く過程を描き出した。一方、愛媛県のMTLでは、断層近傍に発達する鉱物脈群の方位分布密度を解析し、断層に近い場所ほど鉱物脈形成時の間隙流体圧比が高かったことを明らかにした。地震性高速変形班は2000年鳥取県西部地震の余震域周辺の小断層群の古応力解析を行い、断層群が複数の応力場で発達したことを明らかにした。また、2016年熊本地震域のうち、日奈久断層帯および阿蘇地域における踏査を行い、断層露頭を記載した。下部地殻班は、東南極トナー島、ノルウェー北部、北海道日高山地から採取された岩石試料の解析を行った。ノルウェー北部の斜長岩マイロナイトの解析結果に基づき、地震と関連する動的破壊による破砕・吸水変成反応・粒径依存型クリープによって下部地殻剪断帯が形成されたことを示した。トナー島では下部地殻条件の地震性高速すべりに伴う局所的高歪速度塑性剪断変形を明らかにした。地震観測サブグループでは、深部断層形状検出装置を整備し、これらを2016年熊本地震震源域において試験的に約150台導入して、約40日間にわたり地震波形記録の連続観測を実施した。その結果、震源断層の近傍で発生する微小地震を多数検出し、複数の面状の震源分布を確認した。また、熊本地震震源域では地震発生域で非弾性ひずみの大きい領域の端で熊本地震が発生したことを見出した。更に、地震モーメントテンソル解を用いた地殻応力推定の新手法開発を行った。

Reason
断層帯のアーキテクチャー（階層構造）を解明するため、上部地殻班は新学術領域研究開始当初から三重県中央構造線（MTL）について、MTLから比較的離れた場所まで調査範囲を広げて調査を行うことを意図したが、昨年からポスドクの参加もあり、野外調査と大量の岩石の微細構造の解析は軌道に乗って来ている。また、カタクレーサイト帯中の流体を介した物質移動の研究は英文論文化された。さらに、9.に記した断層すべりの局所化の論文も国際誌に出版された。一方、鉱物脈の方位データを使った応力インバージョンの研究もおおむね順調で、鉱物脈群の産状の空間変化が見えつつある。地震性高速変形班は2000年鳥取県西部地震の余震域周辺における断層露頭調査において、数多くの断層露頭を確認したほか、それらの断層の古応力解析から、これらの断層群が少なくとも3つの応力場によって形成されたことを明らかにした。また、当初計画されていなかった、2016年熊本地震を起こした日奈久断層周辺および複数の亀裂が確認された阿蘇地域において地質踏査を行った。下部地殻班は、9.に記したノルウェー北部の斜長岩マイロナイトの解析結果を国際誌の論文として公表した。地震観測サブグループでは、計画通りに観測装置の整備を完了し、鳥取県西部地震震源域内の設置予定地点における土地の使用許可交渉等も概ね終了した。そのため、設置準備が整った観測点から順に地震計の設置を行った。

| Strategy for Future Research Activity |
上部地殻班は、三重県中央構造線（MTL）断層帯のアーキテクチャー（階層構造）を解明するため、今後も比較的広い範囲で地質調査、岩石の微細構造解析、変質鉱物の解析、岩石の化学分析等をマンパワーを投入して行って行く予定である。地震性高速変形班は2000年鳥取県西部地震の余震域において、引き続き未調査地域における断層露頭の特定を行う。また、すでに確認している断層にについて断層岩の化学分析と断層のK-Ar年代測定を行い、古応力解析の結果と合せて断層の発達過程の解明を行う。また、2016年熊本地震の発生域においては、詳細な断層の構造解析から断層の活動履歴や発達過程を明らかにする。下部地殻班は今後もノルウェー北部等の試料の微細構造解析を行う予定で、新たに着任したポスドクの参加により研究の進度は加速されると期待される。地震観測サブグループは鳥取県西部地震震源域に1000点の地震観測点を展開し、連続波形記録を取得するとともに、微細な断層形状の検出や応力場推定に着手する。これにより、今までに見られない高い分解能で断層形状や応力場が推定できることが期待される。さらに、地質観察サブグループと地震観測サブグループの融合研究は、新学術領域研究開始当初からの懸案事項であったが、ようやく地質時代断層帯のアーキテクチャー（階層構造）および亀裂方位分布と、現在の地震観測に基づく活断層に沿う余震分布および亀裂方位分布を比較し、断層帯の発展段階について議論する道が開けて来つつある。この融合研究により、断層帯の発展と強度低下の研究は大きく推進されると期待される。さらに、断層破砕岩の変形機構や強度（摩擦係数）低下についての実験的研究がB02班との融合研究として開始され、本融合研究も今後B01の研究を推進する要素となると期待される。
