Outline of Final Research Achievements

We focused on a role of dopaminergic transmission in modulation of stress-coping behaviors responsive to the environmental challenge. Our achievement is summarized as follows. 1. We identified a small brain area called habenula, which modulated central dopaminergic activity, directed mouse stress-coping behaviors to the passive behaviors. 2. We developed a novel method to knock out the dopaminergic receptors in a specific brain regions. With it, it turned out that dopaminergic transmission in the ventral striatum modulate the coping behaviors under the acute stress.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
