| Research Abstract |
On the basis of results of the international joint research entitled "Osteoinduction of synthetic hydroxyapatiteーbone morphogenetic protein composite" (Representative : Prof. Noriyuki Nagai, 1989-1990) supported by the Science promotion Association of Japan, this project (Representative : Dr. Nobuyoshi Takeshita) was made for the international joint research of the basic studies of the dental implants and the regeneration of defected jaw bones.
The following studies were performed : Early calcification at the interface between HAP and human osteosarcoma cells in vitro; calcification at the interface between HAP and periosteal cells in vitro ; cellular kinetics following the implantation of HAP into the rat jaw bone in vivo ; histological changes after the implantation of ceramics into the rat jaw bone, and the crystallinity of HAP. s of the seminar were Prof. Frank, R. M., Prof. Ruch, J. V., Dr. Daculsi, G., Prof. Legeros, R. Z., and Prof. Nagai, N. Dr. Nobuyoshi Takeshita was invited to the 2nd Biomaterials session of the 1990 Scanning Microscopy Meeting, May 5-10, at Bethesda, Maryland USA to present our work. Prof. Noriyuki Nagai also acted as the coordinator of symposium entitled "Biomaterials and Tissue Reaction" of 5th Biennial Congress of International association of Oral Pathologists, July 2-5 1990 at Tokyo. Both Dr. J. E. Davies and Prof. Nagai served a chairman in this symposium. In this symposium joint researchers, Dr. J. E. Davies, Prof. R. M. Frank, Dr. D. M. Williams, Dr. Donath, and Prof. Kuboki presented results of this research project and discussed those with many domestic and foreign participants. Prof. Goro Hirai, Prof. Kawasaki, Prof. Fearnhead, and Dr. Sasaki took part in discussion after their oral presentations.
Moreover, international joint research project for biomaterials containig HAP, BMP and the composite of them will performed, and so both Prof. Nagai and Prof. Kuboki will work in center role for this project after this. Less
