Research Abstract |
This project has been performed with two major aims; One is to continue and promote further the studies on the atmospheric chemistry of the polar stratosphere. The other is to perform preliminary studies to understand the global atmospheric chemistry. To achieve the first goal, we made balloon observations of reactive nitrogen, ozone, and aerosols in Kiruna, Sweden in January 1990. Very important scientific results on the Arctic chemistry have been obtained. To achive the second goal, we visited observational sites of Hawaii and Indonesia. These sites have been found promising for future observations. We have also invited scientists from University of Alaska to make cooperative research on the atmospheric environment in the Arctic. The project we have performed in this way will provide very good basis for the coming programs "STEP" and "New Research Program" on global environment.
