Research Abstract |
The research group has achieved a remarkable success in many respects of the field: 1) An enormous development has been attained in introducing molecular genetic approach to this field. This technique has become a common method for most of the members of this group. 2) A tremendous progress has been made in the studies on the interaction between endothel and smooth muscle. 3) Role of lipoproteins in pathogenesis of arterioscherosis were studied with special reference to macrophage. 4) Notable findings were obtained in the studies on structural proteins which regulate the contractile proteins of smooth Muscle. 5) The method of measuring intracellular Ca^<2+> concentrations in active state was markedly advanced. 6) Reexamination of various peptides affecting vascular system was carried out from the cardiovascular points of view. 7) Studies on the blood flow from the viewpoints of not only theology but also metabolism has provided a new scope as to the spasm and thrombosis in vascular system. 8) Various kinds of experimental models were explored, which will be a very useful tool for cardiovascular research. As a whole, a new concept "Endothel-smooth muscle coupling" has emerged as the next subject of research in this field.
