Research Abstract |
Under the title, "PHOTOMETRIC AND SPECTROSCOPIC OBSERVATION OF THE EXTENDED ASTRONOMICAL OBJECT", following research work has been made. 1. Construction of computer net-work : A computer net-work, composed of the work station SUN4/370, SUN4/1, NEWS MWS-821, X window terminal X station 17, and several personal computers, has been constructed. As the peripheral instruments, there are laser writer LW101, 1/4" and 1/2" magnetic tape, MO disk, CD drivers. This net-work system is also connected to the net-work of the University of Kyoto, called KUINS. 2. Collection of observational data : With the use of telescopes at Ouda station and other various sites of the National Astronomical observatory, photometric and spectroscopic data were collected in the form of photographic pictures or CCD output. As results of data reduction, much of new knowledge and information are revealed about the objects, such as galaxies, interstellar clouds, stars, envelopes of stars and solar surface features. 3. re System : (1) Connection to the previous reduction program : Before this research work, all the reduction programs were based on the Data Processing Center of the Kyoto University. Hence, it was important to connect the new net-work system to the previous one in order to make a smooth continuation. It was done successfully. (2) Newly developed program : Many of new reduction program and utilities for observational work were developed to be applied within the net-work and at the Ouda station. (3) Import of reduction software system : An analysis system developed by National Optical Astronomy Observatories, U. S. A., was imported successfully and is available for researchers. This system, named IRAF (Image Reduction and Analysis Facility), provides a reduction system for 2 dimensional astronomical object as well as one dimensional spectral data. 4. Workshop : The number of users of the net-work system is now over 50. In 1991, two workshops were held, the first one in January and the second in October. Researchers discussed on how to use net-work effectively and exchanged their resources. Less
