Research Abstract

Bonins(Leg126)の航海において,申請者はじめ乗船研究者一同による船上での研究成果が,“Proceedings of the Ocean Drilling Program (Volume126)"として公表された。また,1990年7月にハワイでおこなわれたポストクル-ミ-ティングをはじめとし,日本鉱物学会,海洋研シンポジウム等において,陸上での研究成果を発表した。また,地学雑誌に、伊豆・小笠原弧についての特集号に論文を投稿し,さらに,ODPのScientific Results Volumeに2編の論文を投稿した。現在,基盤の岩石“ム-ス"についての鉱物学的論文を作成中である。
伊豆・小笠原弧におけるODP126節のうち,特に前弧の海底堆積物について,高分解能電子顕微鏡による観察を行なった。その結果,掘削点792と793において,巨大な噴火活動にともなう熱水作用がみられた。科研費補助金により購入した透過型電子顕微鏡により,堆積物中の微細粒子,粘土鉱物の存在と形態,生成過程が明らかになり,島弧の生成に関する有力な手がかりが得られた。また,その熱水変質により生じた種々のゼオライトと粘土鉱物との共生関係から,熱水変質の温度条件や古環境について推定するデ-タが得られた。
火山性堆積物中には、脱水脈,砕屑岩脈,小断層などが多く認められ,その部分には.石膏,スメクタイト,ゼオライト,ぶどう石などが累帯分布をしめしながら充填されており,当時の温度勾配と,温度のり歴を示唆している。堆積物中の間隙水の化学組成は、鉱物組合わせとよく対応し,熱水作用による元素の交換,特に,SO^<2->_4,SiO_2,Ca^<2+>,Mg^<2+>,Cl^-の置換が顕著である。
前弧における基盤岩は,火山岩,無人岩,カルクアルカリ岩であり,特にsite791の基盤岩は,“ム-ス"と呼ばれる発泡性の岩石である。その穴は,ジプサム,スメクタイト(サポナイト)で充填されている。
