Research Abstract |
1. Developments of effective and easy use reaction systems by using a commercially available ultrasonic homogenizer were examined. The designing of the system must be considered specificities of ultrasonic wave, especially the relation of wave length and the height of solution. 2. Studies of sonochemical reactions listed below were undertaken by using the developed and/or the other ultrasonic probes. (1) We found that the main reaction paths of the reduction of alkyl halide with metal hydride and the oxidation of olefin with lead tetraacetate were switched from the ionic path to the radical one by the irradiation of ultrasound. (2) Mechanochemical block copolymerization of poly (vinyl chloride) with methyl methacrylate by ultrasonic irradiation was studied. It gave fundamental informations for the development of new polymers. (3) Mechanochemical polymerization in mixtures of diallyl terephthalate and distilled water by ultrasonic irradiation was studied and the reaction mechanism was discussed. (4) The combination of hydrogen fluoride salts and aluminium fluoride was found to give efficient solid reagents for the preparation of fluorohydrines form epoxide and the halofluorination of alkenes. 3. The system for a sonochemical reaction in a large scale was proposed. It was a flow system with a small reaction vessel.
