Research Abstract |
1. In Japan. we researched at the Diplomatic Record Office. Ministry -of Foreign Affairs (Gaimusho Gaiko-shiryokan). the Yokohama Archives of History (Yokohama kaiko-shiryokan, ). etc. and copied or microfilmed such materials as the diplomatic records. the articles of newspapers and journals. and publications. Each member of our group made reports concerning preceding researches and collected materials at the regular meetings. 2. Six members of our group went to Washington D. C. . New York. and Detroit to research the American materials relating to our project. At the National Archives, we collected and microfilmed the documents of the Department of State, the Department of Commerce, the Department of Agriculture, the Tariff Commission, the Bureau of Marine Inspection and Navigation, etc. At the National Records Center (Suitland). we collected the seized records of Mitsubishi Trading Company. At the Library of Congress, we collected the publications of the government offices above mentioned and the articles of newspapers and journals. In Patterson near New York where silk goods was produced with much Japanese raw silk. we collected some materials relating to the silk industry. At the Ford Archives (Detroit), we collected the documents relating to the strategy of the American automotive companies. 3. Three foreign members came to Japan, and mede reports concerning the subjects they had charge of. They also researched and collected the materials at the Diplomatic Record Office, the Yokohama Archives of History, etc. 4. We collected and analyzed the various Japanese and American materials relating to our project, and clarified the facts of the U. S. -Japan commercial relationship and rivalry in the period between the two World Wars. We will publish the products of our project.
