Research Abstract |
In the future it will be natural that our society require the urban transport system with special attention to safety and amenity. The purpose of this study is to (1) point out and examine problems in the current urban transport and (2) reexamine the transport planning method and management in order to ensure safety and amenity in the urban transport. In this study we have organized six subgroups and discussed six topics independently ; how to (1) evaluate the urban transport from the view point of safety and amenity, (2) ensure safety and amenity in the transport planning, (3) ensure the urban transport system with special attention to safety and amenity in the metropolitan area, (4) in the suburban area, (5) in the local area and(6)in the aged society. Some remarkable results were pointed out in this study. Especially, considering the growth of the elderly persons' participation in the social and economic activities because of the expected rapid growth. of the elderly population and the reduction of overall working population, the urban transport system which meets the specific needs and desires of the elderly and physically disabled people must be urgently needed in order to help and promote their activities.
