| Research Abstract |
本年度の研究実績は以下の4点である
1.研究者間の交流を容易にしたこと
本研究チ-ムは動植物生態学,細胞学,化学生態学,微生物学,数理生態学,林産工学,木材保存学などを専門分野とする研究者から構成されている。研究交流を容易にするために,合宿形式の研究会を京都と,多くの種のシロアリが生息する沖縄県西表島で開いた。西表島では,森林の植物社会学的な分析,土壌構造,シロアリの同定,シロアリの消化管内の微生物の同定などについての実習を行った。
2.研究課題の明確化
地球上に最も多量に存在する高分子であるセルロ-スに注目して,陸上生態系の構造を研究することの意義を検討し,“Cellulose centered porspective on terrestrial community structure"として発表した。これは今後の陸上生態系の研究の新しい方向を切り開くものになると確信している。
3.シロアリの社会性進化に関する新しい展開
シロアリを含めて社会性昆虫における社会性進化の遺伝的基礎についてはHamilton(1964)以来,数多くの研究がなされ大きく進展したが,生態的基礎については見るべきものがなかった。シロアリにおいて,workerの進化が生活様式の変化と対応していることを発見し,その数理的検討を開始した。
4.共生微生物間の相互作用を解明する手がかりの把握
シロアリの消化管内に共生する原生動物・空中窒素固定バクテリア・メタン生成バクテリア間の相互作用を ^<15>N_2を用いて解明する方法を検討している。
