Research Abstract |
A special high-speed digital video system for the observation of the vocal cord vibration was constructed which is to be used in combination with either a solid endoscope or a fiberscope. The system consists of an image sensor, a digital image memory and a video frame memory. The number of picture elememnts is l28x32 and the frame rate is 2000 frames/second. The image memory is 64 Mbyte. It can store the image data of 6 seconds and thus, makes possible clinical recording of pathological vocal cord vibrations during connected speech. The stored data are reproduced as NTSC video signal through the video frame memory. By using the present system, data collection on the vocal cord vibrations in typical pathological cases were performed. The collected data were compiled to be distributed as digital data on the personal computer disk media. The data can be reproduced on the personal computer together with the speech signal and serve as valuable reference materials for inspecting the correspondences between the speech waves and the pathological vocal cord vibrations.
