Research Abstract |
A flow system with air carrier was developed as a new automatic analyzer for sensitive catalytic analysis. The analyzer was applied to determine iodide ion by measurement of a coloration rate constant of a new redox reaction using iodide-catalyzed oxidation of Chlorpromazine (CP) with H_2O_2 in H_2SO_4 (the pseudo zero-order reaction). (1) The analyzer consists of injectors and a laboratory-made micro cell, which are connected in series by PTFE tubing with 1 and 2 mm i. d. Each 150 mul of sample and two reagent solutions were introduced into the flow system by pumping and siphoning. The precision of siphon injection was 0.2%, comparable to a manual syringe injection. The three air-segmented solution zones were carried by air pumping, into the cell, in which the solutions were mixed to initiate a reaction and measure the reaction rate constant. Reproducible mixing was performed within an error of 1% in absorbance measurement of rfethyl Orange solution mixed with water and CP solution. (2) By a manual batch technique, the reaction condition of reactant concentrations and reaction temperature were optimized for sensitive determination of iodide ion. (3) The detection limit of iodide ion using the analyzer was 3 ng, which was lower than that of about 50 ng by the batch technique.
