Research Abstract

In order to evaluate photo allergic skin lesions from pesticides, case analyses and experimental studies were undertaken. The results were as follows :
1. From case analyses of skin lesions from pesticides : In cases of skin lesions from pesticides collected by reporting system, the incidence rates suspected to be photo allergy were relatively lower, i. e., about 2% in total number. The causative pesticides were various, and organophosphorus insecticides and sulfur fungicides were relatively dominant. But, the cases diagnosed definitely as photo allergic contact dernatitis were only small in number.
2. From experimental studies on the skin lesions of photo allergy from pesticides :
(1)Evaluation of the reaction using laser-Doppler flowmetry(LDF)method ; Comparative studies on the evaluation between the LDF method and the reading with the naked eyes were undertaken using guinea pigs and pesticides as captain, PNCB and zineb as a experimental model. From the method, different from the naked … More evaluation, high and low dose groups with PNCB irradiated to ultraviolet showed significantly high reaction at 24 and 48 hrs evaluation in its flow volume, and also in captain high dose group at 24 hr evaluation. The cross reactions among some pesticides were also estimated from the method, and it was suspected that this method is useful to evaluate photo sensitivity. But, from the method, it was difficult to distinguish between negative reaction and pseudopositive reaction estimated by the reading of the naked eyes.
(2)Evaluation of photo sensitivity from pesticides by the Strip-Adjuvant technique ; am pesticides as zineb, captain, PNCB, DDVP, chlorothalonil, paraquat, etc. selected by our past experience and many references were studied to evaluate their photo sensitivity. Among those pesticides, chlorothalonil showed moderate to high potency of photo allergic reaction, and PNCB and paraquat also showed mild potency of photo allergic reaction. But, in case of DDVP, there were some discrepancies in reading on their experimental results. From the results, it was concluded that LDF method is useful to evaluate photo allergic skin lesions and some pesticides were also estimated to have a potency to cause photo sensitivity. Less
