|Keywords||hepatocellular carcinoma / Localized radiotherapy on the liver / Hepatic microsomal function / Hepatic functional reserve|
The estimation of hepatic microsomal function using TMO tolerance test and pathological examination after the irradiation on hepatic parenchyma were studied in rats. The DMO/TMO ratios one month after the 40 Gy irradiation were 0.56<plus-minus>0.10 in irradiated rats and 0.38<plus-minus>0.06 in controls, respectiv
The DMO/TMO ratios ten months after the 40 Gy irradiation were 0.53 <plus-minus>0.08 in irradiated rats and 0.64<plus-minus>0.08 in controls, respectiv
The hepatic microsomal function of irradiated rats decreased at three, six and ten months after 40 Gy irradiation.
Histological examinations revealed that the irradiated livers contained mild atrophy and the irregularity of chromatin nucleoli in hepatocytes three, six and ten months after the 40 Gy irradiation.
Clinical Study of radiotherapy on hepatocellular carcinoma
Localized radiotherapy was performed for eighteen patients with hepatocellular carcinoma. The tumor volume was decreased in eleven patients.
AFP was decreased in twelve, of these fourteen patients.
However, the hepatic microsomal function not decreased after the radiotherapy in these patients.
