Research Abstract |
Recently, many mutagenic compounds have been isolated from pyrolysates of amino acids and cooked foods. These mutagens are aromatic heterocyclic amines, and Trp-P-2, Glu-P-1, MeIQ, MeIQx and IQ are five of them. In this project, four experiments were performed. In the first experiment, the tongues of the hamsters were treated with Trp-P-2 or Glu-P-1 for 16 weeks, and then the tongues were wounded. These tongues did not show any marked epithelial dysplasias. In the second experiment, most of the tongues of the hamsters which were treated with Trp-P-2 or MeIQ for 4 weeks together with double woundings, showed epithelial dysplasias. In the third experiment, the tongues of the hamsters which were treated with Trp-P-2 or MelQx or IQ for 4 weeks in combination with double woundings, frequently showed epithelial dysplasias. In the forth experiment, the application of Glu-P-1 to the gingival wound in rats induced the marked ultrastructural changes in the epithelium-connective tissue junction, particularly the basal lamina.
