Research Abstract

Since 5 years ago, we have been constructing 3 D images maxillo-facial cystic lesions , using the 3 D image (3 dimensional image) software , included in the X-CT system.
In 1990, we improved a supporting apparatus for the scanning of the maxillo-facial lesions, and researched the factors concerning 3 D reconstruction.
As the result, we had learned how the locations and thickness of scanning severally concern to the volume of constructed 3 D images, and grasped the optimum CT value, which displays a exact volume of subject.
In 1991, a new function, named "cutting", was added to our software, we have become possible to cut off the useless part' of 3 D images.
With this function, we succeeded in some trial simulations of operation, on the 3 D images.
In 1992, we tried a new method of mandiblar outlined 3 D images, by means of choicing fairly limited CT value. Completed images (temporally named outline image) was displayed with that of cystic lesions in a same frame ; and thus the location, the shape, the size, and the direction of lesions in the mandible became easier to understand, in the same time the volume of lesions are calculated.
Volume of outline images were very scanty, and not effective to volume calculation of lesions. These knowledges were applied to clical cases.
