Research Abstract |
Suda investigated immunohistochemically the characteristics of defense reactions in experimentally-induced rat periapical lesion and examined the effects of neutropenia on the development of the lesion. Tanaka found the involvement of lipid peroxides in the development of periapical lesion. Kawanami observed using SEM that several bacteria were present at the outer root surface around the apical foramen. Kumagai investigated histologically the experimentally-induced endodontal-periodontal lesions in dogs. Yamaki showed that Ca(OH)_2 used as an intracanal medicament was effective for clinical use. Okamoto measured the release of several cytokines from monocytes after the challenge of LPS from periodontopathic bacteria. Ishikawa demonstrated the expression of adhesion molecules in periodontal lesions. J. Nakamura revealed that periapical tissue healing following root canal filling was stimulated by disocclusion. Osada investigated some biological properties of fibroblasts cultured from p

eriapical granulomas. Nishikawa found that the measurement of impulse-response of periodontium to tooth percussion was applicable for the diagnosis of the diseased conditions of periodontium. H. Nakamura investigated the effects of LPS from intracanal bacteria on cultured pulpal cells, periodontal ligament cells and calvarial cells. Kimura revealed that some adult periodontitis patients showed lower responses in autologous mixed lymphocyte reaction. Yoshikawa investigated immunohistochemically the distribution of macrophages in rat periapical granulomas. Murayama found that the population density of black-pigmented anaerobic rods in periodontal pocket varied from site to site and that there was DNA polymorphism of P. gingivalis even in a single pocket. Matsuo analyzed the correlations between the number of immunocompetent cells in periapical lesions and the clinical findings of the involved teeth. Maeda demonstrated the presence of IL-1beta mRNA-expressing cells in experimentally-induced periapical lesion using in situ hybridization. Yokota investigated the effects of sympathetic nerves on the periodontal tissue. Less
