Research Abstract |
This report is the summary of the two-year project (1991-1992) conducted in the 3rd and 4th year of Heisei, which is the continuation of the three-year study project of the same subject carried on from the 63rd year of Showa to the 2nd year of Heisei (1988-1990). The project is characterized by the fact that it tries to construct a language teaching method for Asian and African languages of native scripts making use of the CAI programs developed in particular for those languages and scripts. The outline of the study in this period is as follows. 1. Some CAI programs for Bengalin, Cantonese and Estonian are developed, which are the continuation of the studies of CAI programming in the former period. In the Cantonese program, students are trained and tested on their understandability on hearing short sentences. For Estonian, they are trained and tested for distinction of longness in pronunciation found in vowels and consonants, and also for their representation in letters. 2. In Bengalian course, programs are developed in making use of the Native Script. For Korean, the distribution of code-numbers for Hangeul (Native Script) are investigated in some word-processor software problams known to us. 3. In the course of the study, we discussed and planned the development of this project. Viewed as a whole, we would say that the study had been well developed. But there remain some problems to be solved. Making use of the authoring system, it is not able for us to indicate errors to be corrected of incorrect answers on the screen. Moreover, the capacity and facility of the processing machines is not likely to have a sufficient power for analyzing and representing language data. In order to solve these problems mentioned above, it is necessary for us to use the highly efficient machines to come in a few years.
