Research Abstract |
The materials for this study are based on longitudinal of dental conditions in the same indivisuals which carried out from the age of one and a half to three and a half. Of these subjects, 54 children were reexamined at the age of twelve, continuously 40 at the age of thirteen and 32 at the age of fourteen for the present study. They were examined on dental diseases and caries activity at each investigation, according to def and DMF index, PMA index, diagnostic criteria for the assessment of occlusion in the anterior segment and caries activity test by Cariostat. The relationship between the prevalence of dental diseases, caries incremnet and caries activity in the deciduous dentition and those in the permanent dentition were analyzed. With respect to dental caries, coefficients of correlation between each indices of the deciduous dentition and permanent dentition were computed. Result 1. Statistically significant correlations were obtained between the caries activity at the age of three and DMFT at the age of twelve, thirteen and fourteen. 2. Significant correlations were obtained between deft at the age of three and DMFT at the age of twelve, thirteen and fourteen 3. Significant correlations were not obtained between deft at the age of three and caries increment during the period from the age of twelve to fourteen. 4. Significant correlations were obtained between caries increment during the period from the age of one and a half to three and a half and DMFT at the age of twelve, thirteen and fourteen. 5. One third of both normal occlusion and malocclusion groups changed to the other occulusal conditions respectively in the permanent dentition. 6. The maxillary protrusion and deep overbite in deciduous dentition had a tendency to have the same occlusal conditions in the permanent dentition. 7. The prevalence of gingivitis in the subjects at the age of three was very low while they were remarkably high at the age of twelve, thirteen and fourteen.
