Research Abstract |
Summarized report of my research results will be forth coming. The small management structure of the saltpans is complicated. This complexing is also evident in Setouchi district. To conduct my study of Setouchi district, I divided it into three management groups in a logical way. The first group is managed directly by the owners of the saltpans. In the case of the landlord who owns some saltpans, even if he leaves his business in the charge of his employees, cherks or managers, he is nevertheless responsible for its profits or losses, therefore I regard it as the first group. The second group is managed by the tenants, there are two types of tenants in this particular grouping. The first is the "Haori" tenant which tends to run the operation according to the owner's influence. The second is the "Daiku" tenant which tends to run the system according to the influence of the actual workers. The third group is a system which is based on the rate of output. It is a sort of the "Daiku" tenant, but profits and losses are distributed between the tenants and the landlord according to the actual rate of production. I named it type of the "Sechu" here. The group used in this study is run by the Nozaki family of Okayama prefecture. This paper offers a brief overview of three types of management groups used within the modern salt industry of Setouchi district. Furthermore, I described certain methodology used in my research.
