Research Abstract |
A residue of Illinois No.6 coal after extraction by pyridine and whole Miike coal were degraded to coal liquids and n-hexane extracts called hydrogenation oil were prepared. On the other hand, coal extracts soluble in pyridine, benzene and n-hexane called extraction oils were prepared by Soxhlet extraction. The coal extraction oils and hydrogenation oils were separated by amine column HPLC into compound classes of saturate and different aromatic ring compounds. The numbers of aromatic and naphthenic rings and alkyl carbon on each rings were estimated. Extraction oils and hydrogenation oils were approximatly similar chemical characteristics involving compound type species and their content distribution. From these results, it can be presumed that structural units of the macromolecule and low molecular component are closely related and share the structural features. One-ring and two-ring aromatic fractions have been separated and fractionated by reversed phase HPLC equipped by ODS packed column. Accorading to GC-MS analysis for these fractions, aromatic compounds of coal liquefaction oil were separated by both structural effects of their numbers of naphtahenic rings and alkyl carbon number. Carbon column as packing material for HPLC was also investigated for separation according to different ring numbers of naphthene condensed to same ring numbers of aromatics. Separation by naphthenic ring was not successful although it can be presumed that alkyl substituted hydroaromatic compounds are separated with positional isomers of alkyl groups.
