Research Abstract

The dyeing behavior of pressure degummed silk using autoclave was examined and compared with that of general degummed silk with sodium carbonate solution.
The dyes used were acid-, disperse- and direct dye. The adsorption isotherms of pressure degummed silk using nonionic surfactant only with C. I. Acid Orange 7 was higher than that of general degummed silk. However, the diffusion coefficients of the former was lower than that of the latter. On the adsorption isotherms, there was no significant difference between pressure degummed silk and general degummed silk with C. I. Disperse Red 19 . But the diffusion coefficients of the both with disperse dye were similar to that of acid dye . On the dyeing properties with C. I. Direct Red 23 were different to that of other used dyes. Namely, the diffusion coefficient of pressure degummed silk was higher than that of general degummed silk. It is considered that the effect of remained sodium carbonate in silk fibers appeared sensitively.
