Research Abstract |
1.(1R,2R)-Hormosirene, (1S,2S)-hormosirene and ectocarpene were first identified from female gametes of Japanese marine brown algae: C. bullosa, S. lomentaria, Scytosiphon sp., and A. japonicus. 2. Scytosiphon sp. (Hokkaido)secreted ectocarpene as the sex-attractant, whereas (1R,2R)-hormosirene for S. lomentaria (Yamaguchi). This is a discovery that female gametes in the same genus secrete different attractants. 3. Inter-genus cross-reactions of the gametes of A. japonicus with Scytosiphon sp. or C. bullosa, reflects the absolute configuration of (1S,2S)-hormosirene of A.japonicus: the (1R,2R)-hormosirene from C. bullosa and S. lomentaria. 4. Enzymatic productions of sex-attractants during release to settling of the female gametes of C. bullosa,S. lomentaria and A. japonicus were first proved in the female gamete cells. The female gametes secrete sex-attractants for the male gamete-attraction after the settling.
