Research Abstract |
Newly acquired information from 1993 researches are as follows : 1) Sculpture group found many specimens in the museums and the temples of Thailand and Indonesia. They show the original styles of the gilt bronze Buddhist statues and repusse plaques of the Horyu-ji and the Shoso-in treasures. 2) Lacquer work group continued the research on the works with basket body of Thailand. They also carried out research in Vietnam and found some examples with mother-of-pearl inlay decorations relative to those in Horyu-ji and Shoso-in treasures. 3) Textile group continued a study on multi-colored ikat weaving(matmi)which has close relationship with Kanto-gire in Horyuji and Shosoin treasures. In Jakarta they recorded a dyeing process of batik similar to ancient rokechi of the treasures. 4) Metal work group made further researches on the gold, silver and gilt bronze objects found at Wonoboyo and Wonosobo in Java, they are now in the Jakarta National Museum. Producing techniques of water pitcher, bowl, covered box and incense burner among these objects is closely related to those of Buddhist implements in the Horyuji and Shosoin treasures. 5) History of international relations group carried out a field research around Palembang in Sumatra, Indonesia where Srivijaya Kingdom was probably founded. They collected several documents about megalithic culture of pre-Hindu period and the relics of Hindu-Buddhist period.
