Research Abstract	欧州原子核研究機構(CERN)の大型電子陽電子衝突装置LEPは、平成4年4月から第4回目の本格的物理実験のための運転を行い、これを同年11月に終了した。東京大学理学部の参加するOPAL実験グループはこの間順調にデータ収集を行い、平成4年度だけで約80万例、平成元年から通算すれば約130万例ものZ粒子崩壊事象を記録するに至った。単にデータ量が増えて統計的な価値が上がっただけでなく、各測定器の性能が向上、あるいは理解が深まり、質的にも優れたデータが得られている。なお、東京大学理学部の作製した電磁シャワーカロリメータは、89年の実験開始以来、未だカウンター一本も欠けることなく作動しており、多くの物理解析に貢献している。今年度の主な物理成果を挙げる。 1)ビームエネルギーの不定性を20MeVから6MeVまで下げることに成功し、Z粒子の質量をいまだかってない精度で決定した。Z粒子の諸性質の測定により、電弱標準理論の精密検証を行った。その結果を総合することで、トップクォークの質量が150GeV前後であることが、確かになった。また、電弱相互作用と強い相互作用の結合定数の測定値から、大統一理論の検証を行った。 2)タウ粒子の崩壊分岐比、寿命の精密測定により、これまで未解決であったタウ粒子にまつわる2つの問題を解決しつつある。 3)ボトムクォークの諸性質を様々な方法で精度良く測定した。 4)ヒッグス粒子の質量は60GeV以上であることがわかった。一方、L3グループはレプトン対十2光子現象で2光子の不変質量を組むと60GeVに4現象が異常に集中したという論文を出した。OPALグループは、それらがある仮想新粒子から来るものとして、全ての崩壊モードについて探したが、結果は否定的であった。
