Research Abstract |
The main purposes of this international cooperative research works with korean scientists in the fields of genetics, breeding and reproduction in fishes are to establish strong personal connection between Japan and Korea in the same field. We did not know about the present situations in the research of fish genetics, breeding and reproduction in korea. We first planned to exchange idea and information on the fish genetics and reproduction and had seminars at kon-kuk. University and Korea Ocean Research & Development Institute. The discussion on the chromosome manipulation on the basis of profitable use of the techniques and the problems in the aquaculture was fruitful. The triploid females are useful because they are all infertile and grow through the spawning season. But triploid males are fertile and have possibility to be involved in the natural spawning. This may cause some genetic pollution in the natural population because the triploid males produce abnormal embryogenesis when the

y mate with normal females. The problem is that the manipulation gas strong possibility to induce chromosomal changes. The Electrically fused-eggs caused just after fertilization make new research field of chimera formation in fishes. Such research field is new in Korea. The cryopreserved sperms may be useful in the future aquaculture in a sence of fish breeding. This technique may be applied to the breeding of Japanese flounder. In Korea, mariculture of Japanese flounder is now prosperous in cheju-Do and in the coastal waters around pusan. the sex control of the japanese flounder was also topic at National Fisheries University of Pusan. Sex control and manipulation in Japanese Flounder is already established in Japan, because the growth of females is more rapid than males and economical benefit will be obtained by keeping all female population in this aquaculture. Vitellogenin production in the liver at maturation is common under the control of E secretion in fish. But interesting results were obtained in the present research that the Vitellogenin production was also under the control of GTH as well as E in eels. This result was obtained from the liver cell culture in Vitro. The research levels between Japan and Korea in the fields of fish genetics and reproduction are quite different. The proposal from Professor Park Kon-kuk University to continue cooperative research works on the fish genetics, breeding and reproduction was made. We are planning future cooperative works between Japan and Korea on the basis of the Fruitful results of the exchange of the information and research works in the present studies. Less
