Research Abstract

This project has been proposed as a japan-Korea International Collaboration Research Program by JSPS and KOSEF to promote cooperative research on hyperon and hypernuclear interactions at the KEK 12-GeV proton synchroton. It was the first year of the two-year collaboration program, and therefore, major efforts were made for mutual understanding between Korean and Japanese physicists about physics interests, experimental activities facility developments, etc. A workshop on hyperon scattering and hypernuclear physics was organized in Korea by Korean physicists. In the workshop, Japanese physicists introduced activities at KEK, and Korean physicists joined to design a new hypernuclear experiment.
Besides these new initiatives, there have been several experiments at KEK-PS in which Korean physicists were partially involved. Those were installation of a large superconducting spectrometer, the (pi,KAPPA)-hypernuclear spectroscopy, hunting for the H-particle with the scintillation fiber detector, analyses of the hybrid-emulsion data, etc.
