Research Abstract |
The first Workshop on "Environmental Monitoring from Space" supported by KOSEF and JSPS was held at KAIST during 15-18th November, 1991. As the result of workshop, the EMSEA (Environmental Monitoring from Space of East Asia)project has been formed under the agreements of both parties for the promotion of a well organized research activities in remote sensing fields by scientific communities of Korea and Japan. The second Meeting of the EMSEA was organized on 11 and 12 January 1993 at KAIST, Taejeon, Korea, After the plenary, working group meetings were held to discuss ways and means of materializing collaborative projects on such specific topics as (1) Ocean : Presentation of "Active Microwave Remote Sensing of Wind and Waves" and the application of the data from the space borne altimeters and scattermeter on the problems of Ocean Dynamics relevant to the wind and waves by Dr.Ebuchi, Presentation of the Current Activities in Remote Sensing in KORDI by Dr.yoo. (2) Climate : Find out typica

l patterns of precipitation for both dry and wet climate, Find out the key variables to determine various precipitation pattern in the hydrological cycle, Find out how these key variables have interacted with the global climate change and Predict the potential change of precipitation and availability of water resource in the EAST-Asia. (3) Land/Forestry : Review on Individual Research Interest, Common Research between Korea and Japan, Future plan for Research Cooperation. (4) Water Quality Monitoring : Summary of the activities in the first year : Case studies have been conducted by both parties. Methodologies of water quality estimation have been developed and validated for the single period model. Proposed activities for the second year : Feasibility study should be conducted for multitemporal water quality estimation. It was suggested that the "EMSEA Newsletter" be published quarterly to keep participants of the first and second meetings infor.ed of the latest development. Professors Choi and Takagi will serve as the executive editors, while Drs. Kim and Nakayama will be in charge of editorial work. Less
