Research Abstract

1. Several mongoloid features were recognized in the skulls of Homo erectus from Java and China. This suggests that the Mongoloid originated in Asia.
2. In the incidence pattern of cranial nonmetic traits, there is a great difference between the native Jomon and immigrant Yayoi, but after the Yayoi period the trait expression has remained quite stable during the last 2000 years in the central islands of Japan. This strongly supports the migration theory as to the origin of modern Japanese.
3. The same HLA-haplotypes were observed in the Asian and American mongoloid peoples. This suggests that the Asian Mongoloid moved to Americas. The distibution pattern of HLA-haplotypes in various areas of japan indicates that there were several migrations from the Asian continent into the Japanese islands in the past.
4. Genetic relationships were examined for 30 worldwide populations based on 12 loci of genetic polymorphism. From this result it became obvious that the Micronesian, Polynesian and even the Australian Aborigenes as well as the Amerindo dispersed from East/South Easat Asia.
