Research Abstract

西部北太平洋の富栄養から貧栄養の外洋水域及び赤道湧昇海域を対象にして、オーシャンフラックスの加速減速要因として重要な生物粒子の一次生成過程を、生成量と生成物の質の相違の両者の把握を目的として研究を行なった。具体的な作業としては、昨年度実施した研究航海の結果の解析と、来年度の航海に必要な技術開発を中心に行なった。一次生成量の推定では、赤道湧昇域を対象にして有光層への栄養塩類の供給頻度を明らかにすることを目的に、人工衛星による過去10年間の海表面温度の測定結果を集めて解析し、海表面水温から湧昇の強度を判定することを試みた。それをもとに湧昇による有光層への栄養塩類の供給時期とその程度の推定を行なった。推定結果の一部は1990年の現場実測データで検証して妥当性を確かめ、1993年には自鳳丸の航海を利用してさらに踏み込んだ検証を行なう予定である。一次生成物の質に関しては、今年度は顕微鏡観察とフローサイトメトリーの両者の方法を主に検討した。フローサイトメトリー法は培養株を用いて検討し、珪藻類、ハプト藻類、緑藻類ではクロロフイルの直接蛍光で植物プランクトンを識別し、前方散乱強度で細胞の大きさをかなり高精度で測定することが可能になった。しかし、フイコエリスリンをもつラン藻類では、前方散乱強度が過大になりさらなる検討の必要なことが判明した。顕微鏡観察では、特に光感受性が強くて計測が困難であった原始緑藻類の計数法の確立を目指し、それを可能にした。一次生成が集中して起こる海表面近くの諸環境状件をモニターする、自動昇降式表層域環境観測ブイシステムを設計・制作した。システムは今度日本近海で各種テストを行ない、1993年秋の白鳳丸航海で実際に利用してデータをとる予定である。
