| Research Abstract |
平成3年から6年度まで行った重点領域研究「星間物質とその進化」は、星冠物質が示す多様多岐にわたる現象に対応し、各種の観測、化学反応や分子構造の理論と実験、固体物性、宇宙物理理論など広い分野での共同的・組織的研究を進め、宇宙における物質の循環・進化の全体像を追及することをめざし、幸いにして極めて豊富で質の高い成果を得ることができた。本研究では、この重点領域研究で実施された多くの研究の成果をとりまとめ、それらを総合的に検討し、成果の公開と今後の研究推進の方向を打ち出した。
具体的には、以下の計画を実施した。
(1)平成7年8月に、取りまとめの総合シンポジウムを開催した。3日間にわたるシンポジウムに118名の参加者があり、各研究グループからの研究成果報告をもとに総合的に討論を行った。このシンポジウムでは、重点領域研究全体を通じて何が明らかにされ、星間物質の認識について何が進んだかを総合的に把握した。また、今後の星間物質研究に残された問題や、これからの研究戦略の検討を行った。
(2)研究成果公開促進経費の補助を得て、平成7年10月に「大学と科学」公開シンポジウムを名古屋で開催し、研究成果を広く一般に報告した。このシンポジウムには一般から344名の出席があり、上記重点領域研究で得られた成果に対する一般の関心の高さがうかがえた。
上記総合シンポジウムと公開シンポジウムの内容をあわせ、学生や教師の参考書として活用できる、一般向けの分かりやすい本(大学前期程度での教科書として使えることを目指す)を出版するよう準備を進めている。これについては、平成8年度の研究成果促進経費により出版したいと考えている。
