Research Abstract	研究対象が(i)高温超伝導の舞台となる異常金属相及び(ii)超伝導の対称性の2項目にほぼ絞り込まれた。こうして目的のはっきりした研究が行われ,高温超伝導体の新しい物理描像の確立が間近くなった。(i)の項目に関してはまず高温域での物性測定を通してモット転移付近のキャリア濃度領域である温度以下に異常金属相が存在することが鮮明に示され,そこで高温超伝導が生じることも確認された。これを基盤にHall係数・熱電能・比熱等の熱及び輸送特性,いわゆる“スピンギャップ"現象を含む磁気特性が,巨視的・微視的双方の手段で詳細に研究され,異常金属相の起源や各種振舞の統一的理解へのてがかりが蓄積された。特に銅酸化物にみの擬2次元モット転移系にも異常金属相が共通に見られることが実験的に示されたことから,この異常金属相がおそらくは「磁気相関が発達した,磁気ゆらぎの大きな,しかし長距離秩序のない金属電子系」に共通した特徴であることが知られ,銅酸化物とその他の系の異常物性と高温超伝導出現の有無との相関を具体的に調べることが可能となった。これは異常金属相のどの性質が高温超伝導と直結しているかを知る術を与えてくれる。(ii)の項目に関してもNMR,中性子非弾性散乱,光学測定,光電子分光さらにはSTM/STS測定まで多くの手段で研究がなされ,多くがdx^2y^2的対称性をもつ超伝導ギャップを支持するデータを与えた。STM/STSのみが必ずしもそれと一致しないデータを提出しているように見えたが,表面原子波動函数の詳しい考察からやはりdx^2y^2的対称性を考えれば,多くのデータが矛盾なく理解できることがわかってきており,収束の時が近いようである。
